Prix de thèse Coqblin 2020
Il est encore temps de proposer sa candidature pour le prix de thèse Coqblin 2020 qui récompensera la meilleure thèse effectuée dans un laboratoire Français sur la thématique « Thermoélectrique ». Pour rappel, les doctorants ayant soutenu entre le 01/09/2019 et le 30/08/2020 sont éligibles. N’hésitez pas à encourager vos doctorants à candidater à ce prix ! Il est remis à l’issue de l’examen d’un dossier (CV + liste de publications + résumé de la thèse + rapport de soutenance) par un jury d’experts extérieurs aux conseils du GIS. Les dossiers sont à adresser à Bertrand Lenoir (bertrand.lenoir@univ-lorraine.fr) avant le 30/09/2020.

Les prochaines journées nationales en Thermoélectricité, JNTE Edition 2020
Les JNTE 2020 seront organisées à l’IEMN, Institut d’Electronique de Microélectronique et de Nanotechnologie (CNRS et Université de Lille), à Villeneuve-d’Ascq, par Zahia Bougrioua et ses collègues. Compte tenu de la situation exceptionnelle, cette édition se déroulera sur 3 demi-journées, les 18 et 19 novembre 2020, en respectant un protocole de sécurité sanitaire conforme à la situation qui prévaudra alors.
La première demi-journée sera consacrée à des cours/conférence sur les microdispositifs thermoélectriques et la thermoélectricité à l’échelle moléculaire. Il y sera abordé des aspects conception par micro/nano-technologie, caractérisations (sonde locale) et applications spécifiques (harvesting, capteurs, métrologie, thermique). La journée de colloque qui suivra n’aura pas de coloration thématique, comme à l’accoutumée, et sera dédiée à des présentations orales et des posters de la communauté nationale. Un appel à communication sera ouvert au début septembre 2020 sur un site d’inscription dédié.
Ces JNTE se clôtureront par l’attribution du prix Coqblin qui récompensera la meilleure thèse en France sur la thématique « Thermoélectricité ». Il concerne les doctorants ayant effectué leur thèse dans un laboratoire français et qui auront soutenu entre le 01/09/2019 et le 30/08/2020. N’hésitez pas à encourager vos doctorants à candidater à ce prix !

Virtual Conference on Thermoelectrics
En lieu et place d’ICT2020 (Seattle) qui a dû être annulée et ECT2020 (Barcelone) reportée à 2022, ne ratez pas la Conférence Virtuelle en Thermoélectricité – VCT 2020 qui se déroulera les 21, 22 et 23 juillet 2020. C’est gratuit et plus de 300 présentations sont annoncées. La date limite pour vous enregistrer est fixée au 14 juillet 2020. Résumés de publications récentes en thermoélectricité
Cette rubrique présente des résumés de publications extraites de la production scientifique mondiale en thermoélectricité des 6 – 12 mois précédents. Ces résumés ont été rédigés par les membres du conseil scientifique (CS) du GIS. L’objectif est d’attirer votre attention sur des résultats jugés comme « marquants » pour la thématique par ces membres du CS. Une avancée notable du côté des matériaux conventionnels de type n Bi2Te3-ySey

Les composés à base de (Bi,Sb)2(Te,Se)3 bien que découverts dès les années 1960, sont toujours les matériaux de choix pour les applications thermoélectriques (management thermique ou génération d’électricité) au voisinage de la température ambiante. Si les matériaux de type p (Sb2-xBixTe3) présentent des performances élevées (ZT ~1,1 à 300K), celles des matériaux de type n (Bi2Te3-ySey) restent plus faibles (ZT ~ 0,8) malgré les nombreuses stratégies de recherche mises en place, pénalisant ainsi les performances globales des dispositifs à base de ces matériaux. Selon une récente étude [1], cet écart semble désormais obsolète. S’appuyant sur un procédé de synthèse (broyage et frittage SPS en présence d’une phase liquide – Te) qui augmente le degré de texturation et un dopage à l’antimoine, un facteur de mérite adimensionnel moyen de l’ordre de 1,3 a été atteint entre 300 et 575 K pour le composé Bi1,8Sb0,2Te2,7-Se0,3, ce qui est tout à fait remarquable. Selon les auteurs, les gains observés sont dus à la fois à une amélioration des propriétés électriques et thermiques. La mobilité électronique est exacerbée grâce à la forte texturation et le pouvoir thermoélectrique est augmenté par effet de filtrage alors que la présence d’une densité de défauts (dislocations, lacunes, précipités) importantes contribue à affaiblir la conductivité thermique de réseau. Les excellents résultats obtenus avec ces matériaux de types n se traduisent directement par une amélioration des performances des modules. Ainsi, un rendement de 6,6% a été obtenu dans un module constitué de 35 couples pour une différence de température appliquée de 235 K, soit une amélioration de 88% par rapport à l’état de l’art.
